Structural Engineer EIT – Fort Collins, CO

Work with a fast-paced, growth-oriented team of forensic engineers at Knott Laboratory.

Knott Laboratory was established in 1982 and has become the nationwide leader in forensic engineering and animation for 35 years. We are an established, regional forensic engineering firm looking to add a Forensic Structural Engineer in Fort Collins.  On our team, you will be asked to help diagnose building damage and/or defects then develop engineering reports and repair plans.  Damage evaluations include construction defects, earthquakes, wind, hail, vehicle impacts, fire, snow and ice, floods and differential soil movement.  Most of our team members, including this position, enjoy the flexibility of working from home offices.


Perform forensic assignments under the guidance of a Senior Engineer.
Inspect, photograph and document the damaged structures from fire, flood, vehicle impacts, etc. and draft repair plans.
Field Investigations: Study and determine the cause and origin of damage to buildings (construction defects, differential soil movement, earthquakes, etc.
Produces written forensic reports detailing the cause(s) of the damage.
Ability to initiate, develop and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships.
Some travel can be expected.


Minimum Applicant Qualifications
BS Structural or Architectural Engineering – Master’s Degree Preferred
Excellent communication skills
Outgoing and enthusiastic attitude

Preferred Applicant Qualifications
Experience (typically 1+ year) as a design/structural engineer (residential and/or commercial buildings)
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, AutoCAD, Bentley RAM, StruCalc, Enercalc
Construction experience preferred
Working knowledge of the building envelope, roofing systems, components and cladding
Working knowledge of current and historic building codes
Construction Management experience
