About

Mr. De La Cruz is a structural engineer working across several structural teams in Arizona.

Engineering Design

Mr. De La Cruz has designed superstructure for building-enveloped and independently supported industrial and aerospace enclosures relying on cold formed steel shear walls, steel moment resisting frames, steel trusses, and steel braced frames. These enclosures included paint enclosures, hazardous material enclosures, conveyorized ovens, sanding/blasting enclosures, etc. The varying processes, uses and equipment required customized engineering attention to provide a compliant structural design. Typical considerations were high environmental loads, heavy mechanical units, support of cranes, 3-axis personnel lifts, and support of duct stacks subject to exterior wind loads. At times, Mr. De La Cruz would be required onsite to observe and resolve issues directly with customers and installation teams, sparking an interest in forensic engineering.

As one of the structural engineers for a world-class manufacturer, Mr. De La Cruz was able to be the primary structural engineer in providing solutions for domestic, international, and military projects utilizing a variety of governing codes and customer specifications; including those published by the International Code Council, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Concrete Institute and the American Institute of Steel Construction, Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractor’s National Association, and the Unified Facilities Criteria. Mr. De La Cruz was also responsible for reviewing submittals, production drawings, and resolving questions from Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
