Dash Cameras and Accident Reconstruction

Dash cameras are becoming more prevalent on the road.

Research shows that 10-20% of people have a dash camera in their car, with 30% who want it as a standard feature on their next car.

Dashcam footage is a great piece of evidence in vehicle accident reconstruction. We can apply our Digital Media Forensics process to unlock powerful analysis with the video footage. Add to that the data we pull from Event Data Recorders and our team can accurately reconstruct the incident.

Some vehicle manufacturers are moving to built-in dash cameras. Here’s a list of what’s currently available:

BMW – stores 20 seconds before and 20 seconds after when triggered by an incident. Available on every 2019 and later model with iDrive 7.0 or later.

Mercedes-Benz – 2024 models have dashcam capability

Tesla – every model after 2020

Mini – 2024 models

Rivian – Gear Guard software update in 2023 includes recording from all the vehicle’s cameras

Subaru – 2024 models with EyeSight captures images (no video) within common Event Data Recorder functionality

Toyota and Lexus – a proprietary dashcam is an optional feature on 2022-2024 models. The cameras will trigger to save footage in a collision.
