Historic Restoration: Delta Police Department Opens
Giving new life to historic buildings
Giving new life to historic buildings is an incredible privilege as structural engineers. Historic buildings are hallmarks that tell a community’s story from ages past.
This building, located in Delta, CO, was constructed in 1922 and served as the Delta National Guard Armory. It was decommissioned in 1962 then went through several uses before sitting dormant for decades. As you can imagine, dormancy led to serious structural problems and overall degradation.
Knott Laboratory was engaged to assist the architect and contractor to prepare this building to become the new home of the Delta Police Department.
The process began with a thorough inspection of the entire property and laser scanning of the interior. From there, our structural engineers and drafters used the scans to create as-built drawings and add structure.
We performed a complete structural design of the new second floor and some elements of the ground floor and created repair plans for the masonry and foundation.
We would like to congratulate the Delta Police Department, the architect, and contractors on giving a new life to this historic structure. It’s gratifying to see the building continue in public service and we’re thrilled to have taken part.
