Dr. Albert Knott was the test engineer hired to represent the steel fabricator in the famous Hyatt Regency Walkway Collapse in Kansas City in 1981.
Dr. Knott’s testing proved the walkways were weakened significantly due to a redesign of the walkway support system. The design engineer had not noticed the change when the drawings were submitted for his approval.
This collapse changed the way engineers took responsibility for checking shop drawings on a national level.
