Laser Scanning

Accurately documenting accident scenes and structures

Laser scanners capture millions of data points, accurate to a few millimeters, creating a “digital twin” of an incident scene, structure, or environment. Using high‑definition laser scanners, Knott Laboratory preserves conditions exactly as they existed at the time of inspection, allowing critical details to be analyzed long after a site has changed due to cleanup or repairs.

The primary benefit of laser scanning is accuracy. Distances, elevations, clearances, and spatial relationships can be measured directly from the data, reducing reliance on assumptions or incomplete documentation. Laser scanning also captures entire environments providing a comprehensive, permanent record that supports clear analysis and communication in complex cases.

Knott Laboratory uses laser scanning in accident reconstruction and structural building analysis, including vehicle collisions, workplace incidents, construction disputes, and building failures. Our forensic visualizations support engineering analysis, expert testimony, and litigation.
