Knott Laboratory provides forensic engineering and animation, Civil & Structural, and Fire & Explosion Investigation services to reconstruct accidents.

Vehicle Black Box Analysis

Black boxes provide increasing amounts of data critical to motor vehicle accident investigations.

Automobile manufacturers have been placing “black box” Event Data Recorders (EDR) in vehicles since the early 1990s. Because this technology has been in use for decades and adopted by nearly all automobile manufacturers, it is highly likely that today’s accidents involve one or more vehicles equipped with an EDR. With over 20 years experience collecting vehicle event data Knott Laboratory has the expertise to retrieve and analyze event data stored on heavy trucks and passenger vehicles that have been involved in an accident. As EDR technology has evolved, so has Knott Laboratory’s expertise providing clients with increasing amounts of data critical to motor vehicle accident investigations.

A Knott Laboratory expert can quickly determine whether a collision vehicle is equipped with an EDR and advise you with the proper method of preserving the data. Heavy Truck EDR download capabilities include Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Mercedes Benz, Paccar, International and Sterling engines.
