Knott Laboratory provides forensic engineering and animation, Civil & Structural, and Fire & Explosion Investigation services to reconstruct accidents.

Fiber Cement Shingle Damage

Our engineers can determine if damage to fiber cement shingles is the result of a product defect, storm event or other cause.

Knott Laboratory’s structural engineers are experts in inspecting fiber cement shingles, also known as masonite, Woodruf, Cemwood and Permatec, for hail and wind damage. Our forensic engineers have performed destructive testing on Woodruf shingles gaining valuable data regarding the wind forces required to damage these shingles. Utilizing calculations, experience, research and testing data, our engineers can determine if damage to fiber cement shingles is the result of a product defect, storm event or other cause.

Through Knott Lab Academy, our engineers offer a free 1 hour course (approved for Wyoming Insurance Adjuster Continuing Education Credit) on inspecting fiber cement shingles. This course is popular with the SIU groups and can be taught at either your facility or ours.
