The functionality of a building can be compromised if the roofing membrane is subject to weather related damage.
There are two types of general roofing applications: sloped roofs and flat roofs. Typically residential structures have sloped roofs and commercial structures have flat roofs; however, the types of roofing materials used on either commercial or residential is interchangeable depending on the roof design.
An integral role is played by the roof in the overall function of the structure. The functionality of a building can be compromised if the roofing membrane is subject to weather related damage, mechanical damage, improper installation, manufacturer’s defects, lack of proper maintenance, or general age and weathering. A roof protects not only the interior, but also parts of the building envelope from moisture build up and infiltration.
